I wonder how many women back then actually followed this?

My parents separated when I was about 2 years old (about 7 years after this stuff was written) and I distinctly remember my mother telling me that one night my Dad made her so angry that she hit him over his head with a frying pan!

I think the idea of this is basically the same as most women's magazines are today: full of idealistic clap-trap. Whether it's how to be a perfect mother or wife, or how to be a superwoman with a perfect size 0 figure after having a child it's all idealistic nonesense and totally unachieveable.

G'day Larry,

Scotland didn't adopt/accept the Gregorian calendar until 1752. However, Scotland did change the beginning of the year to 1 January in 1600.

In other words, changing the start of the year to 1 January doesn't automatically mean you are using the Gregorian calendar.

It's a trap many fall into.

Happy to discuss.

Karson, Thanks for dropping by!

If you really want to get a better handle on both the history and the ideology (theology) of this subject I recommend two fantastic books by RJ Rushdoony:

http://www.amazon.com/Nature-American-System-Rousas-Rushdoony/dp/1879998270

http://www.amazon.com/This-Independent-Republic-Rousas-Rushdoony/dp/1879998246

Hope this helps!

Lar

Since you are a HS student and costs might be a factor, there are many older used versions of both books available for even better costs; use DealOz to search by title and author: http://www.dealoz.com/

Excellent explaination of general economics. "Im from the government, and I'm here to help," is the scariest sentence in the English language when you understand basic economics, human nature and enlighten that with the Christian concept of man's sin. For all those who are skeptical, even hateful, regarding "evil" captitalists and their "excessive" profits, how much kinder and gentler do you think a government beauracrat will be when he operates under his idea of the "general good." If profit in the hands of individual businessmen has the potential to do damage to the general population it is beyond imagination what havoc can be brought by a swarm of "well intentioned" (and unelected, unacountable) "civil servants" who are only trying to enforce the fine print of legislation that even our Congressmen admit they don't read or understand.

That government is inherently inefficient and incapable of providing good service should be understood by anyone who has ever stood in line at any government operation, say the DMV.

For those who hold particular delusions about government health care, I'd like to remind everyone that the three largest blocks of manpower on the planet are, in order of the largest number of workers, 1. the Chinese railroad; 2. the Indian railroad; and 3. the English government health care system. For perspective, China has approximately 1.3 billion people, India has approximately 1.1 billion people and England has approximately 50 million people. So it takes an awful lot of people to deliver "free" health care to England's 50 million citizens. How many do you think it will take for the United States to provide that service to our 300 million, and at what expense? If that doesn't scare you, you're already at room temperature.

I'm all for making my home a haven for my husband and I know I could be doing a better job! However, this article had some statements that I definitely didn't agree with. For example, the comment about his topics of discussion being more important than mine was ridiculous. Also, the idea that I must not ever question his actions and that I should always trust his judgement was in my opinion a false belief or statement. We do have defined roles that God has given us, but the Bible also speaks about mutual respect. That is what is lacking in this article.

Lar,

I cannot tell you how refreshing to hear you declare truth. I am on linkedIN and "Theonomist" appears beside my name. In my experience, those having reservations about theonomy are either simply rebellious (most) or are ignorant and fail to see the obvious theme of Grace in every aspect of God's Law. It is Grace in every way. Autonomy is suicidal and bondage in totality.

I Have done consideratble reading in Rushdoony - vol 1&2 systematic theology, all three volumes of his work on the Law of God - these are all MUST Reads for every believer and soldier of Christ's Kingdom, Everything Francis Schaeffer ever wrote, some Gary North, Bahnsen and also Einwechter - he has a great theonomy primer entitled, "Ethics and God's Law".

As with King David, I am in love with the Law of God - meditate on it and discover the unfathomable riches of His Grace and order through it. God's Law is the only Code whereby our globe will become peaceful as the Prince of it (Peace) and His Grace are accepted on His terms of non-negotiable and total surrender.

Glory to God, write on Lar, write on!

Utterly proud of you,
